The Hatha Yoga Club of Burkina commemorated, on Saturday June 25, 2022 in Ouagadougou, the International Day of Yoga in the presence of certain authorities such as members of the Ministry in charge of Sports, the charge d’affaires of the Embassy of India in Burkina and diplomatic representatives of other countries. This day was an opportunity to demonstrate different breathing techniques and postures with the aim of showing the great values ​​that Yoga brings to practitioners.

the yoga is the practice of a set of postures and breathing exercises that aims to bring physical and mental well-being. The United Nations chose June 21 as International Yoga Day in 2016.

This year’s edition was commemorated, on June 25, 2022, by the Hatha Yoga Club of Burkina, through various activities in Ouagadougou. The country, according to the leaders of this club, registers about fifteen Yoga clubs.

This edition was crowned by a set of postures and sequences performed by practitioners in the gymnasium of the Institute of Sciences, Sports and Human Development (ISSDH).

Yoga being composed of various forms, it is Hatha Yoga that master teachers and students put into practice on Saturday, June 25, in front of the audience, in order to show them the virtues of this practice of Indian origin.

“This form of practice ensures an overall balance of the body, to strengthen the health of the practitioner by optimizing the functioning of the various organs and systems of the body”, explained the founder of the Hatha Yoga Club of Burkina, Idriss Ouédraogo, in addition trainer in the practice of Yoga and former ambassador of Burkina Faso in India. He said that breathing techniques are one of the fundamental elements of Hatha Yoga.

In Yoga, there are many exercises contained in a set of postures and sequences. There is among others the salutation to the sun composed of 12 sequences, the salutation to the moon composed of 28 sequences, the walk of the elephant. The latter, according to Idriss Ouédraogo, is a sequence which makes it possible to be able to manage the potential in oneself and which reinforces the stability and the spirit of concentration.

In addition to these different postures, there are also those of the chair which, according to the former ambassador of Burkina in India, allows to reinforce the stability of the being, postures of balance “which develop the capacity to be able to hold standing whatever the bad weather we are going through”.

Representatives of the diplomatic corps of countries such as Russia, Nigeria and India, honored this Day with their presence. Chargé d’Affaires at the Indian Embassy in Burkina, Chakraborty expressed his gratitude to the Hatha Yoga Club of Burkina, which “works tirelessly to promote and popularize Yoga in Burkina Faso”.

“The friendly people of Burkina Faso have always given their unconditional support to the celebration of the International Day of Yoga for the past eight years,” said the Indian diplomat, who wished the event every success.

As for the Director General of Sports, representing the Minister in charge of Sports, he conveyed the Minister’s words of thanks to the people of India. “We say thank you to the people of India for this opportunity they are giving us to allow our youth to be able to learn this wisdom of Yoga which makes it possible to develop a certain formation in man”, declared the representative of the minister.
