A study on the mental health of young students or at the start of their professional life showed that 56% of them, including 62% of women, suffer from chronic stress.
The mental health of young people is of paramount importance today in our society. Students or young workers, stress is omnipresent and health takes a hit… To maintain this health, some are ready to leave everything behind. The world of work around us is our daily life and stress can go with it. With confinement, the situation has only worsened, especially for young students. Poorly accompanied, it was a very complicated, even nightmarish period for some. But you should know that work can also contribute to the good health of young people.
A study of Job Teaser and Mocha.care carried out on approximately 900 students and young graduates has provided a little better knowledge of the situations and expectations in terms of mental health in the world of work of these young people. The survey clearly shows that mental well-being plays a role and has an impact on the first stages of these young people’s lives.
Five major trends emerge from this survey:
- The mental health of young French talents is weakened: 30% of them admit to feeling bad, even very bad morally in the current context. Even more, the majority suffer from chronic stress which affects 56% of them (62% of women and students without work experience). Work has an impact on mental health since 39% suffer from an excessive workload and 34% are afraid of not seeing their job search succeed.
- Mental health care is not yet everyone’s business. Nearly 65% of young people surveyed implement strategies to take care of their morale. Today, they take care of their mental health using two levers: physical activity (52%), and “self-care” oriented resources (51%), such as specialized books and podcasts, meditation, sessions with psychologists, applications… However, 35% of young workers require support for solutions to take care of their mental health.
- The issue of mental health is a priority for many respondents of the COVID generation: 62% of them would not apply for a job offer, even a very attractive one, if the company does not give importance to the mental health of its employees.
- Faced with an uncertain professional future, they require awareness and a real commitment on the employer’s side: 88% of respondents agree that the company must play an active support role.
- For them, the place of mental health issues in the corporate culture has become a decisive criterion. Are acclaimed in priority: the benevolent management (79%), the conditions of the pace of work (73%), the contribution to physical activity (57%).
