Phishing or Phishing

Attention ! Since a few monthsthe parcel scam spread like wildfire. The government is alerting French people to the increase in the number of false SMS or emails announcing the delivery of a package.

Sf you are one of those thousands of French people who have received an SMS, or even an email, โ€œinformingโ€ them of the pending delivery of a package, do not click on the link! This is an attempt to phishing (data theft).

The government’s digital security assistance and prevention system has issued a warning, relayed by TF1Infoin which he indicates the procedure to follow if one has been caught in the trap.

Phishing, known as phishing in English, is one of the most widely used scams on the internet. It’s about of one stratagem to get users to disclose personal or financial information via email or website. But also, more and more scammers operate via incoming messages from widely used apps such as WhatsApp or Facebook. Headers from major brands such as DHL, Leboncoin or AliExpress are increasingly used. So, be very careful about the information you communicate!

Phishing is a crime! It tricks victims into sharing sensitive information such as passwords and credit card numbers. As with fishing, there are different ways to bring the victim to order on the hook.

Here is the most common phishing tactic: the victim receives an SMS or email that imitates (or โ€œ falsifies ยป) a person or organization you trust, such as a bank, post office, or government office. The message prompts you to connect to a website graphically very similar to the original one and enter some personal information.

The scammer therefore sends a targeted pitch aimed at persuade the victim to click on this link. And upload an attachment to send the required information or even make a payment.

Digital attack, a scam of the “human mind”

Unlike other types of online threats, phishing does not require significant technical skills. According to Adam Kujawa, director of Malware bytes Labs, a well-known American Internet security company, phishing is the simplest type of cyberattack. But it is also the most dangerous and effective because it affects the most powerful and vulnerable computer in the world: the human mind.. Phishers do not try to exploit technical vulnerabilities present in the operating system of appearances, but they resort to to social engineering.

This fake SMS scam is not new! It was particularly massive and aggressive in this summer of 2022. On social networks, hundreds of Internet users testified. Indeed, they say they have received (and still receive) several SMS of this type per day.

False package or false delivery

Specifically, with regard to the fake package scam, the scammer is posing as a known company. Such as La Poste, Colissimo or Chronopost. Then it asks you to click on a link to install an alleged Chrome update for Android smartphones or enter its logins and passwords for Apple iPhones.

Indeed, for Android phones, the alert message prompts to install an update of the Chrome browser. Do not click on the link which is actually a malicious application! Once installed, this virus is able to carry out various malicious actions: sending mass SMS sometimes overcharged, stealing passwords.

Regarding Apple brand phones, the operating mode is different. The message claims that, for security reasons, it is necessary to re-enter your Apple account ID and password on an Internet page that turns out to be fraudulent. The objective of this phishing is to hack into the victim’s Apple account.
