Alexandre Clanis practices painting and photography as a call but questions the gaze and prepares it to confront the unexpected. The surface summoned by these two registers proceeds from material qualities but also suggests atmospheric dispositions and emotional vibrations. It is an appearance that does not claim any determination and willingly lends itself to multiple directions and interpretations. This presupposes a state of availability which requires acceptance of a loss of bearings and openness to the most surprising solicitations.

This appearance is both close since it is of the order of immediate perception, but also distant since its emergence does not exhaust what is tied and undone. Far from being a simple aesthetic representation, it gives itself as a promise of breath, of fluidity and encourages perceptual overcoming. On one side, Alexandre Clanis deposits the paint on sandpaper or industrial canvas and marks the passage of the body without wanting to achieve a definitive presence since each deposit accentuates the feeling of depth. On the other, he photographs a sprig of wild oats against the sky and invites you to experience a poetic horizon that deploys an attraction as sharp as it is elusive.
