*Guterres wishes the success of the next elections in Tunisia (AA)

The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres, expressed his hope for the success of the next elections in Tunisia, stressing that the international organization will “always be at the side” of this Arab country.

The Secretary-General hailed Tunisia’s constant positions and its contributions on the various issues on the UN agenda, both in terms of settling the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic and the food crisis, as well as for the climatic changes.

Antonio Guterres met the Tunisian Foreign Minister, Othman Al-Jarandi, during his participation in the work of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Secretary-General hailed Tunisia’s constant positions and its contributions on the various issues on the UN agenda, both in terms of settling the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic and the food crisis, as well as for the climatic changes.

The Minister also updated Guterres on the progress of the roadmap for the corrective process in Tunisia, which will culminate in legislative elections on December 17, reaffirming that democracy, the preservation of freedoms, and human rights, as well as the rule of law, good governance and the fight against corruption are irreversible choices.

Al-Jarandi added that “the exceptional measures announced since July 25, 2021, are part of a path of corrective reform that was necessary to” distance the Tunisian experience from the dangers that threatened it, and this, ‘in a way that preserves the stability and security of the country’.
