Trips made to the Mursis, Padaungs, Kogis, Konyaks, Papuans, etc. allowed Pat de Wilde to bring together images that have become exceptional as these peoples are forced to assimilate or disappear in the more or less long term. Thus he captures the essential with subtlety, creating an almost supernatural interaction between the actor and the spectator, both frozen in the timelessness of the appearance. Uncovered sensibility that resonates with ours across distances as evidence of belonging to the same destiny. The choice of subjects, both human and animal, expresses with modesty, by their treatment without artifice, the purity of the forms. Lion, child, panorama, this imposing triptych, a major piece of the exhibition, invites the viewer to question the artist’s work. This stripped beauty takes us back to the origins when the man of good quality submitted to the earth and not the other way around. The photographic vision of this land that is ours, and to which we often no longer pay enough attention, gives its landscapes, whether human or not, a contemporary graphic expression.

The exhibition “Happy Prehistory. Humor and Prehistory, homage to Pierre Laurent (1928-1986)” is presented at the Museum of Prehistory of Terra Amata. Pierre Laurent (1928-1986), research engineer at the CNRS, prehistorian and scientific draftsman, produced, for many years, the drawings intended for the publications of the famous prehistorian François Bordes and the teams of the Institut du Quaternaire de Bordeaux. On the sidelines of his scientific activity, Pierre Laurent published, in 1965, a delightful book entitled “Heureuse Préhistoire”, published by Pierre Fanlac. It presents humorous drawings to tell different aspects of prehistory and research in prehistoric archeology. This work, which has become a classic, is impossible to find today.
