Another version supposes that if the barges, passing in front of the castle, lowered their sails, they answered a maritime salute and the voice of a lookout who, hailing the boat, shouted “Baysse velle! The captains then had to pay a right of way, certainly forgotten by many sea wolves, by virtue of the width of the river mixed with a delicate maneuver. And keep grants deep in their pockets. But the legend remains, like the greeting always required at the entrance to Beychevelle: “Passers-by, you are entering the ancient and famous cru of Saint-Julien! Say hello! »

Talks with the devil

No salvation either, in the Médoc as elsewhere, without witches! And they are not lacking, especially at Prat Lahouret: “the meadow where funny things happen”. On this site, located at the foot of the castle of Beychevelle, sorcerers and witches held Sabbath around a fire and danced. In a 19th century storye century, in the guise of a goat, the Devil was challenged during initiation ceremonies: “Grand Abiron, Grand Abirus, Superbiton, Superbitus, Tarnago, Farnago, Tantire bagette, Passe mantago! There followed an exchange with the Devil before sealing, forever, a cursed pact.

Not far from Prat Lahouret and Château Beychevelle, on the prestigious Médoc wine route, the famous D2, there is a work of art that is a major center of witchcraft, namely the Pont de l’Archevêque. This name reveals an ordeal between the Devil and an archbishop wishing to evangelize the Médoc. “The ordeal was the construction of the bridge and the stake, access to the possession of the soul of the Médoquins”. The devil lost, but every once in a while he stood at the entrance to the bridge. He collected coins and crowns from passers-by who had to kiss his buttocks. The devil then shouted: “Bica platena! Cuu you planted the lena! (“Kiss paten! I’ll plant the awl in your ass!”).

A bridge also works miracles

The miracle of Saint-Julien multiplied: exit deafness, visual impairment or anatomical deformity

The Archbishop’s Bridge is also known as the Bridge of Miracles. When the Archbishop of Bordeaux gave the sacrament of confirmation to the children of Saint-Julien and Beychevelle, the inhabitants were waiting for him at the entrance to the bridge. The prelate crossed the work on foot and blessed everyone. The miracle of Saint-Julien multiplied: exit deafness, visual impairment or anatomical deformity.

Not far from Beychevelle, the village of Moulis was almost called Rome, a pope having asked to build a church, in competition with a town in La Botte. The rest, we know it, Rome is in Italy, because of the evil genius of Beychevelle who, it is said, delayed the Médoc site of Saint-Saturnin church. Nevertheless, it is not a legend, all roads lead to Moulis.
