The Oscar Lake Outfitter, an example of evolution

FLEMISH RIVER | We often talk about the evolution of the outfitting world in Quebec. The Pourvoirie du lac Oscar is a good example.

Located 60 kilometers northwest of La Tuque, this outfitter offers fishing and hunting stays, but also complementary activities that make it unique. This exclusive territory of 234 square kilometers has been exploited for nearly 50 years by Donald Farrar. He always has the same energy to develop it and go further.

Even though it already offers several chalets, it has decided to go ahead by offering, for this season, the new Hirondelle chalet, located on the banks of the Flamand Ouest river. Built on an old log drive site from the 1900s, the environment of this chalet allows you to observe the remains of another era. It is the ideal site for wilderness lovers who like to hear the flowing river. Fans who visit this site can fish for speckled trout in small rapids accessible by foot via a path. They can also fish and sail a distance of three kilometers, depending on the water level, to Lac Duresme and other lakes near the chalet. Speckled trout and gray trout are fished there. In addition, it will be possible to fish for walleye and pike in the Blanc reservoir.

ALWAYS DEVELOP

With the support of his daughter, Léa, and Marc-André Dubé, Donald was able to carry out many projects.

Thus, he has the project of building seven new chalets with windows, on the edge of the lake, for couples or small families. Four of them will be available for the 2023 season, which will mark the 50^and outfitter anniversary; the other four will be available for the 2024 season.

For fishing, amateurs can always count on the outfitter’s sites offering a wide variety of species, namely speckled trout, lake trout, pike and walleye. It’s quite impressive as a range of possibilities for the same outfitter.

All chalets are fully equipped to accommodate European plan fishing enthusiasts. All the necessary equipment to ensure your comfort is on site, in the cabins, as well as the boats and engines. There are even chalets capable of accommodating groups of 8 to 12 people. For fishing, there are bodies of water that are reserved for fly fishing only. Hunters are not left out with packages for bear and moose hunting on this territory, which is the largest in Haute-Mauricie.

Over time, the outfitter has adapted by offering several thematic and complementary activities to a stay. You can therefore go swimming, kayak and canoe rental, bird and wildlife observation, quad rides, hiking, paddle boarding, mountain biking, mountain… so many activities that enhance a stay.

We also offer you the possibility of living meditation retreats. With more than 1000 hours of training, Léa Farrar will be able to give you a course in meditation, conscious breathing (breath work) and Qigong classes. It is therefore possible to combine healing sessions with fishing activities during a stay.
