The Forgotten Offerings, Messiaen 1930

A work of “first times”

Olivier Messiaen is one of the most important French composers of the second half of the 20th century. Also an organist and pianist, he is also recognized worldwide for his renowned teaching at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Paris. In 1930, Messiaen was only 22 years old when he composed a symphonic meditation: The Forgotten Offerings. This grandiose work by such a young composer reveals a turning point in the history of his career. It is indeed his first work played by a professional orchestra as well as his first published symphonic work. Without forgetting that when we play Messiaen for the first time in the United States, it will be about Forgotten Offerings. A look back at the life and work of Olivier Messiaen!
