the association On the way to the abbey of Saint Evroult in Ouche (Orne) was contacted by the Abbeys of Normandy to organize activities, “leaving the association free to do what it wanted”, explains Catherine Hauepresident of the association Sur les chemins de l’abbaye de Saint-Evroult.

Silence, like the Benedictines

The activities will take place in the great hall of the abbey of October 26 to 30“it allows us to bring life to this large hall of the abbey, which will be a place of exhibition, a place of meditation and then for an hour, a theatre”.

The idea for this theme came during a discussion “while visiting the Abbey of Saint-Nicolas de Verneuil. The abbey of Saint-Evroult is a Benedictine abbey and you should know that the Benedictines take a vow of silence”. The association then sought to join forces to offer a rich program.

The objective was that several good wills propose to Saint-Evroult, a moment of culture, meeting, around several disciplines.

So, to bring the territory to life, a broad program has been put in place. From October 26 to 30 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.there will be an exhibition of paintings and photos on the theme of silence.

Wednesday October 26from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., a meditation workshop will be led by Catherine Haué.

Thursday, October 27 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.“there will be a session of laughter in silence with a sophrologist” led by Laurence Eaton.

Friday, October 28 at 8:30 p.m.a play about The mysterious island will be played by Manuel Weber, an actor who has settled permanently in Saint-Evroult for a year and a half. “The Mysterious Island is an adventure show that lasts one hour, directed by Mathilde Etienne”, develops Manuel Weber. In this program which must evoke silence, it is ambitious to stage a work of Jules Verne, but “after many adventures, this story ends in silence” notes the actor and tries not to say too much. Always with a view to exchange and sharing, the show will be followed by a moment of sharing.

The program will continue on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. by a silent walk with Father Stéphane. The appointment is given in the church of Saint-Evroult. The walk will be about 8 km. “From what I understand, they will go there in silence and come back talking,” jokes the presidency of the association Sur les chemins de l’abbaye.

That same day, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a writing workshop on the theme of silence led by Laurent Kiefer. The silent week will end Sunday, October 30 at 10:30 a.m. with Jean-François Beauchêne, “we will go to the back of the Saint-Hubert chapel, there are oaks several hundred years old and we will go and recharge our batteries by embracing them”.
