A MAN who won thousands of dollars in the lottery says his success is due to the unique and random way he chooses his numbers.
Michael Jones, 52, won £22,350 in the Pick 5 lotto draw on October 8 after paying just 45p to play.
The electrician, from Baltimore, Maryland, said he must have done a double take when he saw his numbers pop up in the evening draw.
He played Pick 4 and Pick 5 matches twice a day before his persistence paid off.
According to the Maryland State Lottery, he enters over 200 number combinations in hopes of hitting the jackpot.
Michael credits his dedication to consistently taking a bet – and his method of picking numbers – for his big boon.
He explained that instead of using birthdays, numerology, or lucky dips to decide, he came up with another bizarre technique.
The 52-year-old told how he remembered license plates from friends, relatives, colleagues and motorists to use in the lottery.
He even used the registration number of a driver who hit his car in a traffic accident – hoping the accident would bring him good luck.
But due to his passion for playing Pick 4 and Pick 5 games every day using numbers from many different plates, Michael cannot remember where he picked his winning numbers.
He told NottinghamMD.com: “When I saw my numbers hit I had to watch it two to three times just to be sure.
“I know it was someone’s tag number, but I can’t remember what tag number.
“I might have shared some of the money with them if I could remember who it was.”
The electrician plans to use his newfound fortune to pay some of his bills, while splitting the money with his wife and two adult children.
The Maryland State Lottery said: “He was checking his Pick 5 tickets from the Oct. 8 evening draw when a 50-cent ticket delivered a shocking surprise.
“Michael explained that he also places bets using the license tag numbers of friends, family and colleagues.
“He even used the registration number of a person who hit his car in a car accident.
“Michael purchased his winning ticket from US Fuel located at 6100 Moravia Park Drive in Baltimore.
“For selling the lucky ticket, the Baltimore City Gas Station and Food Market will receive a $250 bonus from the lottery.”
We have already told how an Australian man became a millionaire after making a stupid mistake choosing his usual lottery numbers.
He had accidentally marked the wrong section when selecting his usual online lotto pick – winning him $1million – or just over £587,000.
The guy had no idea he had made the lucky mistake, or won big after the draw, until he got a call from the country’s lottery provider.
