Iris Cleretnative Pont-Audemer (Eure)spent ten years in Argentina where she followed several training courses as a therapist, art therapist and yoga and more precisely as a kids yoga. “I returned to France with my husband who is Argentinian and my children and I resumed an activity for a year. After various interventions in hotels on the Normandy coast and even at PSG, I wanted to democratize yoga and share it within associations, “says Iris Cleret, who works in nurseries, at “La pause equilibre”, association created by Florence Henninot, in Pont-Audemer, with various practitioners gathered around well-being, which consists of organizing courses for children with the program: drawing, music, acrobatic gym, Brain gym and also Yoga.

“Today, I am very happy to be able to give these yoga classes for children at the “Yoga’bs” room, located rue Sadi Carnot, where Céline Génar gives yoga classes for adults and Giovanni Bruno gives Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong. »

Reduce restlessness and stress

“A Yoga session for children has nothing to do with a session for adults. The course does not necessarily take place in a calm atmosphere. It is a course of openness, sharing and interaction in the group, for a dive into the discovery of their sensations and their emotions, but also of their body and their breathing, always in a benevolent atmosphere. »

These days, most people use only a small portion of their breathing capacity. By taking the time to breathe, you oxygenate your body better and promote body relaxation. This state of relaxation makes it possible to reduce agitation andrelease the stressto create a vacuum to promote concentration.

For children aged 2 to 5, these are invitations to explore their own breathing space through different games and ways of breathing. Around the age of 6 or 7, it is possible to begin more complex exercises by working on respiratory cyclicity.

In yoga, we also learn to identify, discern and evacuate one’s emotions. This gives the child the opportunity to come together. Emotional discernment brings him more calm. He will be less prone to hyperactivity, crises and confinements. To approach emotion in yoga, we can rely on reading a tale. By coming to recreate the story, we wonder about the characters, their attitudes, their reactions and their interactions,” says Iris Cleret.

And the practice of any physical exercise acts on the body as well as on the brain. Children’s yoga stems from something playful and pleasant. It will be born from the craze. It is the multisensory simulation, the activation of the imagination and the awakening of curiosity that will lead the child to movement. We therefore come to work on the reactivity and dynamism of the body, its strength, its balance, its flexibility and its endurance, its senses, the coordination, the development of postures, the awakening of the face and the motor skills of the hands and feet, through role-playing, mime, animal reproduction, the invention of movements, postures and dance. Through bodily expression, the child will be able to appropriate his body.

Trust and kindness

The practice of yoga strengthens the bonds between the participants. There is a lot of interaction between the children, exercises done together (rounds, games, construction of a story, a boat, geometric shapes). The other is inspiring. Everyone has their place within the group and plays an important role, without any notion of competition. There is no judgment. The child feels confident. There is really this spirit of benevolence throughout a yoga session.

“It is I who will operate as if by magic, to defuse mockery, competition, withdrawal and insecurities if necessary”, informs Iris Cleret. Benevolence is also empathy, recognizing when a child feels uncomfortable, afraid, or hurt, and stopping to listen and take care of the other.
