Health and leisure caravan: a day to honor seniors

Throughout the day on Saturday 1 October, seniors were able to benefit from a series of health examinations and services essentially designed for them. It was at the Port-Louis Waterfront on the occasion of the World Day of Older Persons.

Heart examination, screening for breast cancer or diabetes and hypertension marked the day of Saturday, October 1st. To honor seniors, Le Défi Media Group, Radio Plus and Défi Santé brought together several service providers at the Port-Louis Waterfront, as part of the Health and Leisure Caravan.

Thus, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., clinics and laboratories offered free screenings. This was the case on the stand of Diagnos Clinique, the
Clinique Ferrière du Bon Secours or the C-Care group. The Nova lab laboratory highlighted its home blood collection service for analysis.

For general good health, the Himalaya brand was presented to visitors with a whole range of herbal products to strengthen the immune system, as well as painkillers.

Tectonic was also among the flagship products with its massagers. And for optimal comfort, Maison des Matelas, also present at the Port-Louis Waterfront, offered visitors the possibility of ordering made-to-measure mattresses.

Regarding the diet of seniors, the New Pharmacy highlighted its range of FutureLife products including cereals and energy bars. For a healthy breakfast, Weetabix, also a stakeholder, introduced visitors to a novelty, Weetabix Melts.

Apart from health and diet, skin beauty has been addressed by ProbiEau Solutions Ltd through its ProbiHealth product, which comes from Belgium and contains probiotics. With Medicolyfe, a paramedical pharmacy, doctors took turns all day to offer free consultations.

Well-being at the rendezvous

During the day on Saturday, the emphasis was also placed on the well-being of the elderly. A demonstration of Tai Chi and Qi Gong was given by the Tai Chi Health Club as well as Zenscape.

Also, a series of initiations to Mandala Meditation, laughter yoga or the art of breathing were offered to seniors present on site by HolistiZen. In order to mobilize the youngest present at the Port-Louis Waterfront, a blood donation was organized by the JCI of Curepipe with the collaboration of the National Blood Transfusion Service.

In terms of senior security, Protection.mu was on hand to present its smart cameras, which allow you to see and communicate with your family remotely. Finally, to better prepare for the future and have peace of mind, Elie & Sons offered funeral plans for the family, but also options dedicated to seniors over 71.
