The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i ProX is a thin and light PC, very well finished and above all very powerful. Its 14.5-inch screen offers a high definition and its autonomy seems sufficient to move away almost a day from any mains socket.
Our detailed handling
Clearly targeted by Lenovo With the Yoga Slim 7i ProX, creatives certainly need power above all else to run the heaviest software as smoothly as possible, but this demanding clientele will also be very particular about the quality of the screen, the connectivity and on the design of his future laptop.
Will this new model be able to satisfy them on all these points? While waiting for the results of the tests carried out by the Lab, we used a copy loaned by the brand for a few weeks, corresponding to a rather high-end configuration with its 12-inch Intel Core i7 processor.e generation, its 32 GB of RAM, its 1 TB SSD and finally an NVIDIA RTX 3050 Max-Q graphics circuit.
Design and ergonomics
The first contact puts us directly in the mood: Lenovo has really taken care of the design of its Yoga Slim 7i ProX. It starts with a shell made of premium billet aluminum. The adjustments are perfect and this very pleasant to the touch material has many qualities: it is rigid, light, and, icing on the cake, is more easily recycled than plastic. The set is sublimated by an original dark blue color of the most beautiful effect. A shine that it will keep for a long time, because the finish is very resistant to fingerprints.
This thin and light chassis – about 1.5 kg for a thickness of 15.9 mm – accommodates a 14.5-inch screen whose borders are not particularly thin. This size offers a priori an excellent compromise between a comfortable work surface and the overall size of the PC.
The keyboard of course benefits from backlit keys, which take up Lenovo’s own design, but also their typing comfort above the lot. We also really appreciated the quiet operation of these keys. The touchpad has a more than respectable size and its glass surface allows for very precise movements.
The sides of the beast display a rounded profile, rather original there too. To the right we have a large power button that’s easily found and a physical control to override the webcam. A USB-A socket and the headphone socket also take place on this side.
On the left comes the rest of the connections with two Thunderbolt 4.0 compatible USB-Cs and an HDMI video output. Nothing extravagant, then, but the essential is there. Lenovo has chosen not to integrate a memory card reader, which is a bit of a shame. On the other hand, we will find the 6th wifi and the Bluetooth 5.1.
The Yoga Slim 7i ProX has a 16/10 format screenea more productivity-oriented ratio than the traditional 16/9e. The panel is faithful to IPS technology. Shame, we began to dream of OLED. It offers a comfortable definition of 3,072×1,920 pixels, or 3K to use the term used by Lenovo. This makes it possible to exploit all the details of images and videos without being too demanding in terms of resources for the PC or damaging your eyesight.
Creatives and advanced users who are always ready to work anywhere will no doubt regret the presence of a glossy panel, which is more sensitive to parasitic reflections than a matte panel. While waiting for the passage between the caudine forks of the Lab probes, we give you our impressions from the days spent with the Yoga Slim 7i ProX. The colors seem precise to us with a good calibration and a suitable contrast for IPS. Of course, it will be difficult to compete in this respect with OLED, which also offers much deeper blacks in essence.
This screen also offers a refresh rate of 120 Hz with the arrival, as on smartphones, of a Dynamic mode which allows the panel to juggle between 60 and 120 Hz automatically depending on the use which is made from computer.
Performance and interface
Our configuration features an Intel Core i7-12700H processor. This chip engraved in 7 nm inscribes its 14 physical cores (six P-Core for performance and eight E-Core for energy efficiency) in a thermal envelope of only 45 W. Of course, when the maximum frequency is reached, ie 4.7 GHz, these 45 W are exceeded, especially when the NVIDIA graphics card is used.
Armed with 32 GB of DDR5 RAM, this processor is sufficiently armed to run the most demanding software quite smoothly. It will even be possible to enjoy most games by agreeing to lower their level of detail and their definition. But, to form a definitive opinion, we will wait for the scores obtained in the very demanding Lab tests.
We also appreciated the efficiency of the Yoga Slim 7i ProX’s cooling system, which remains rather discreet. A feat on such a fine machine.
This Lenovo PC uses the Family version of Windows 11, enhanced with some in-house tools such as Lenovo Vantage (update management, warranty status tracking, etc.) and additional applications such as Disney+, Spotify, etc.
Lenovo has chosen to partner with Harman & Kardon for the development of the part of its laptop PC. On the program, two 2 W speakers each placed on either side of the keyboard and Dolby Atmos optimization. The Lab will not fail to analyze its behavior, but in the meantime we consider the power sufficient (no more), with bass not really represented. It may be a bit tight to enjoy his music in good conditions. We will then rather take advantage of the analog headphone jack or Bluetooth.
Despite its thinness, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i ProX managed to ingest a battery with a substantial capacity of 70 Wh. According to the brand, this would allow it to withstand more than ten hours of video playback. We are eagerly awaiting the results of the Lab’s measurements to see how this model behaves. In the context of typical use (office, Web, watching a movie and some photo editing), we were able to use the Yoga Slim 7i ProX for more than 7 hours.
Recharging is done using a USB-C sector block with a power of 100 W. It takes about 90 minutes for a full charge, knowing that Lenovo announces that its PC regains three hours of autonomy in video playback in 15 minutes of charging. That seems a bit optimistic…
