Journeys of persecuted women

Although often considered only part of a pleasant folklore, witchcraft has resulted in the persecution and murder of many women. Located at the foot of Edinburgh Castle, the Witches’ Well, the witches’ wellcommemorates the hundreds of victims accused of witchcraft and burned at the stake between the XV^th and XVIII^th centuries.

The visit entitled “The Real Women of Edinburgh” allows you to discover women’s story out of the ordinary who have lived in the Scottish capital, including supposed witches. At Maggie Dickson’s pub, we will learn, for example, the incredible way in which the alleged child killer survived a public execution in the 18th century.^th century.

In the Cairngorms National Park, in the Highlands, there is a stone on which is engraved the word “witch” (witch). The story of this woman, transmitted from generation to generationis nowadays told by tourist guides.
