Have A Great Time With The Best Wizarding Games TechRadar

Thanks to franchises such as The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, the world is obsessed with wizard games, but there’s a good reason for that – who doesn’t want to be an all-magical being? For years kids have taken it upon themselves to sleep under the stairs in hopes of getting an acceptance letter to Hogwarts, and don’t even get me started on the infamous “you won’t pass” line, many times we denied me access to a hallway at school because of this.

So, we all want to be a magic user, that’s for sure, and video games are a great way to make that dream come true, but what are the best wizarding games? Well I’m bibbidi-bobbidi-booed in the wizarding world of Hogwarts, I joined the hobbits as they tried to destroy the precious, and I cast so much magic I’m the new Merlin, all that just so i can tell you what the best wizarding games are.

We also happen to have a list of the best magic games, just in case this selection isn’t spellbinding enough for you. Or, there’s our selection of Disney games for some other kind of magic. Of course, we understand that some of you are muggles and like it, so take a look at our best iPhone games and best Android game guides to see what else.

Anyway, onto the best wizarding games on Nintendo Switch and mobile.

Want to gather your own army of magic users and then use them to build your own fantasy kingdom? That’s exactly what you can do in the free game Elvenar. Although there are technically no “wizards” as such, the game does have witches, magical priests, mages, enchantresses, and other magical people and creatures, so it’s basically the same thing to have wizards, isn’t it?

In this game, you are tasked with charting the course of a civilization. It can mean that you rule with an iron fist and decide to try to conquer the other nations around you, or it can also mean that you want to be a conscientious state that does its best to establish trade relations and be a respectable member of the global community. You can choose whether you play as humans or elves, but either way you’ll spend many hours in the world of Elvenar.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery – mobile

Of course, Harry Potter is on this list, and spoiler alert, it’s not the only entry for this wizarding IP. So in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery you can create your own witch or wizard to experience this story with.

While at the famous School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, you can choose which house you belong to (I’m a Slytherin, in case you were wondering) and attend classes where you’ll learn all about spells and the potions. You can also build relationships with your classmates – maybe there’s a potion that can help?

Dark Souls – Switch

Listen to me. In Dark Souls you have the ability to use magic, and there’s even a class known as a wizard, which is just a fancier way of saying wizard, so by my extremely sound logic, you’re a wizard , Chosen Undead. Hmm, that doesn’t quite sound the same, does it? Nevertheless, my point remains valid. In Dark Souls, you have to explore the lands of Lordran, which is quite a perilous journey.

On your travels you’ll encounter some pretty tough enemies, but we can help you overcome obstacles and defeat this legendary RPG with our Dark Souls bosses guide. We also happen to have content specific to Dark Souls Gwyndolin, Dark Souls Gwyn, and Dark Souls Artorias, if you want to know more about who you meet in this world.

Best Wizard Games: Wizard of Legend. The image shows the game's logo in front of flames and a strange hooded figure.

magician of legend

With a name like Wizard of Legend, of course, a game like this is out there. In this title, you play as a wizard (a real shocker, I know), but the best thing about this title is the 2D roguelike mechanics paired with top-down gameplay that is so satisfying. To succeed and defeat the ten-story dungeon, you must create devastating combos through a unique mix of your magic spells.

The Lord of the Rings: War – mobile

It features wizards to some extent, and that’s enough to warrant The Lord of the Rings: War a spot on this list. This is a must-play game for any fan of Tolkien’s universe, as it sees you going to war, as good and evil seek the ring.

You can join one of many factions, get advice from recognizable characters, and assemble an army full of knights, archers, armed warriors, and more. However, to truly succeed, you must expand your territory, collect resources, develop settlements, and leave your mark on the world.

Hogwarts Legacy – Switch

Yes, I recognize that the Hogwarts Legacy release date isn’t until “Holiday 2022”, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s not just the ultimate title for a Harry Potter fan, but clearly, it’s a fantasy wizarding game too, so why wouldn’t it be here? In Hogwarts Legacy, you find yourself in a unique position, and not just because you’re creating your own character, but because you’re playing fifth year rather than first year.

Better yet, if gameplay trailers and limited details are anything to say, we can embrace the dark arts, and I have no shame in admitting that if so, I’m going to use all the magic forbidden, and to be a Slytherin that Salazar can be proud of. Throughout your time at Hogwarts, you attend classes, learn new spells and potions, and form friendships (maybe even a relationship?) with your classmates.
