Harry Potter: 10 Hermione’s Biggest Dreams From The Books That Came True In The End | Pretty Reel

Warner Bros. Discovery recently looked to expand its Harry Potter content with potential new offerings from across the wizarding world. Whether it’s a TV show or a movie isn’t yet known, but it’s a good time to reflect on the original series that inspired this larger shared universe.

Hermione Granger is of course a key character within this, and while she may not feature in the next Hogwarts Legacy title, her arc has come to a satisfying conclusion in the novels, with a range dreams that came true as her journey developed. His ambitions and desires paid off to the delight of the public.

Become Minister of Magic

The position of Minister of Magic is one that most people in the wizarding world have coveted, despite how it has been used by the likes of Cornelius Fudge. It was a role that might have seemed beyond Hermione at first, given that some sections of the wizarding world wouldn’t have wanted a Muggle-born candidate to succeed.

It also wasn’t a role she would be able to fill immediately, but Granger always worked hard on her studies so she could create a career that really meant something. She has always been critical of the ministry, with her clashes with Dolores Umbridge becoming an example of how willing she is to get involved in political unrest. However, it will be necessary to wait for The Cursed Child so that this ambition becomes reality.

Representing muggle blood

Hermione suffered a wide range of heinous attacks based on the fact that she was Muggle-born. It’s something she wears as a badge of honor, repelled by the mudblood moniker that Draco Malfoy, Bellatrix Lestrange, and many other purebloods throw at her.

Part of the chip on his shoulder is fueled by the idea that Muggle-borns aren’t as powerful as other wizards and witches, which just isn’t true. She is defined early on as one of the most talented young witches and her role in the story in defeating Voldemort and serving as Minister for Magic is a clear sign that she has demonstrated that ancestry does not had no impact on capacity.

Succeed academically

Hermione always wanted to be academically gifted. The character is still in the library, putting the work in place to aid her natural talents and intelligence. Professors are impressed with the character early on, with many praising his abilities.

It’s an immediate payoff for that dream, but Hermione always goes the extra mile, even taking the opportunity to use a time turner to improve her position. While there are some valid criticisms of Hermione failing to balance her work and social life, in the end it all pays off with the character receiving 10 out of 12 OWLS, all but one were outstanding.

Become autonomous in combat

Although she was good at studying, it was an ambition for Hermione to be self-sufficient in battle. Dueling and offensive magic weren’t her strongest domain, and she felt like she had to defend herself from the approaching storm. It was in her fifth year that she really fought for it.

Joining Dumbledore’s Army was a huge step for the character, where she made significant improvements, demonstrating her skills in a battle against the Death Eaters. But it would be throughout Deathly Hallows that she would demonstrate to herself that she could comfortably fend for herself.

Defeat Voldemort

When Hermione started at Hogwarts, dark magic and Lord Voldemort were distant concerns of a bygone era. As she learned more about Harry’s life and new threats revealed themselves, she began to understand the impending darkness and wanted to rid the world of it.

It was a dream that would become more prevalent when Voldemort finally returned at the end of the Triwizard Tournament. The powerful witch would take drastic measures to defeat the Death Eaters, ultimately leaving Hogwarts to hunt Horcruxes with Harry and Ron. She was integral in defeating these forces, even destroying a Horcrux herself.

Free the house elves

Hermione has spent a lot of time fighting injustice. She discovered one near her home, with the house-elves working in the kitchens of Hogwarts and across the school, serving the students. She started a campaign and founded the Society for Promoting the Welfare of Elves, or SPEW.

It was another early sign of her political ambitions, but Hermione would be determined to bring some freedom to the elven community. She would succeed, with the house-elves getting paid for their work at Hogwarts and getting breaks, but many of them actually preferred their life of servitude, not knowing what to do with their new allowances.

Marry Ron

While Hermione had many incredible goals in mind for her career, educational progress, and changes in the world, she also had a slightly more personal wish for her romantic future. Throughout the saga, it became increasingly clear that she wanted to establish a closer bond with Ron.

The duo had their fair share of conflict throughout, especially when there were other romantic interests in the mix, but they finally embraced their love in the final book, with the pair getting married and starting a family. While the latter may not have been originally planned, it was great to see the romantic dream come true after years of fan anticipation.

Make a difference in the wizarding world

There is a common thread between many of Hermione’s ambitions, whether through SPEW or her role as Minister of Magic. She wanted to make a difference in the world and would do anything (including stopping Voldemort) to make sure things were better than she found them.

It’s a lofty goal, and one that began to manifest after saving Buckbeak, when it became clearer to audiences about the character’s ideologies. Prior to working as a Minister, Hermione secured a position in the Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures which certainly follows her interests before becoming Deputy Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

Form friendships for life

In part, Hermione only survived because of the friends she had by her side. The same goes for each character, with Ron and Harry being lucky to have Hermione to back them up. But Hermione was a little lonely in her early years, feeling isolated, her head stuck in a book.

This was shown especially when she got angry with the boys discussing the fact that she has no friends. It was clear that Hermione wanted to bond deeply but still be true to herself. She has achieved it, with her group of friends developing every book, from Ron and Harry to Hagrid, Luna, Ginny, Neville and many more.

Working in academia

There was another profession that clearly appealed to Hermione. Work in academia. She loved education, she loved Hogwarts and wasn’t afraid to get involved in the running of the school as indicated by her talks in the academy of witchcraft and wizardry.

She respected the institution and her goal of making a difference would have extended to the lives of her students. In an alternate timeline in The Cursed Child, Hermione actually becomes a teacher. But while other wish-fulfillments are satisfying, here she’s shown to get way too mean in the position. Perhaps other factors in the timeline influenced this character change.
