Eure-et-Loir: a game area at Harry Potter!

“A curse has fallen on a famous school of wizards. It threatens magic and children’s stories. The director calls on mortals to travel to a magical world, in search of the ingredients that will be used to make a potion to lift this curse. So who will be able to save the magic before it disappears completely? This is the mission proposed by La Ferme des aventuriers, located in Saint-Maixme-Hauterive, through their escape game inspired by the “Harry Potter” series. Several sessions will be organized on the weekends of December 10-11 and 17-18.

Mikael Terrones, president and creator of the leisure base, promises an immersive and ambulatory journey of one hour, in a succession of nine rooms of a 19th century farmhouse, decorated for the occasion. “Sorcerer’s School” will be hosted by twenty-four professional and amateur actors, aged 6 to 80. “We are between the escape game and the live performance. We want visitors to leave with memories, emotions,” says the man who is also an actor and director. He is also the one who wrote the puzzles and the dialogues. “There’s a lot of improvisation because it’s an interactive game. The actors have a base, then they improvise according to the interactions with the different groups. A work of adaptation and imagination As the Ferme des Aventuriers did not have the rights to use the “Harry Potter” licence, Mikael Terrones had to adapt.

“The headmaster of our school bears a strong resemblance to Dumbledore”

Adaptation work that sometimes proves difficult: “Visitors come because it’s Harry Potter. They expect to have an experience in this universe so we have to give them that. It is a great work of imagination. But he says that “participants will recognize the codes of the saga, in terms of places, characters and history”. Among the emblematic places from which he was inspired, the large dining room of Hogwarts and its floating candles, a classroom or the office of the director. On the side of the characters too, the players will notice certain similarities. “The principal of our school bears a strong resemblance to Dumbledore, with his big beard. We do not name him, like the rest of the characters, but visitors will be persuaded to find themselves in front of him. Participants will also play with students dressed in capes, teachers, a Machiavellian wizard or somewhat eccentric characters.

This is the second time that the leisure center has offered this escape game, after the one organized in 2019. “I am a fan of Harry Potter. I love this universe. What’s good is that it’s intergenerational, it speaks to both children and adults,” says the director of La Ferme des aventuriers, who claims to have received many requests for new game sessions on this theme. If the scenery and the course do not change, the puzzles will be different. The escape game is accessible from 7 years old. “Indeed, it is not a traditional escape game in terms of puzzles. These are not complicated. What we want to highlight is the lived experience. We compensate with the show side,” explains Mikael Terrones.

And at the end of the game, what happens? The actor assures him, the participants will not be content to leave the farm after having solved all the puzzles. “If they succeed in their mission, they will be integrated into the school, through an induction. There will be no hat but we will come close”.
