3 good horror series to (re)watch on Netflix for Halloween

The best side of Halloween, apart from being able to dress up flamboyantly and allow yourself to indulge in deliciously kitsch apartment decoration, is the opportunity to curl up in a plaid (black ) to watch terrifying stories. To celebrate the evening of October 31 in style, an overview of three horrific nuggets to (re)discover on Netflix, a handful of hot candies in each hand.

A few days before Halloween (which will be celebrated on October 31), Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Blade 2, Pan’s Labyrinth) presents on Netflix the first episodes of its collection of eight medium-length horror films imagined by different directors. So many nightmares that plunge us into macabre, strange and supernatural atmospheres. Between autopsy, gallery infested with rats, magic cream intended to stop the effects of time and delusions of spiritualist, this Cabinet of curiositieswhich is reminiscent of Tales from the Crypt, Cult series of the 90s, in less burlesque, reserves many (good) surprises as terrifying as thrilling. In particular, we meet the British actor Rupert Grint, who escaped from the saga Harry Potter.

It’s arguably one of Netflix’s most deranged, daring, and haunting series. Released last year, on the sly, on the platform, the only season of Brand New Cherry Flavor imagine the improbable mix between the dilapidated and kitsch spirit of a B (or even Z) series, the dreamlike David Lynchthe crazy glamor of Gregg Araki and the caustic gore of David Cronenberg. We follow the surreal adventures of an aspiring filmmaker, Lisa Nova (the brilliant Rosa Salazar with the false airs of Rose McGowan and Aubrey Plaza), revenge-loving and resorting to witchcraft in 1990s Los Angeles. The icing on the cake (very bloody and erotic)? The soundtrack that brings together the best of the grunge years (Low, Grant Lee Buffalo, REM, Veruca Salt, Pixies…).

3.”The Haunting of Hill House” (2018) by Mike Flanagan

Stephen King called the Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House (2018) of masterpiece. And the compliment is not exaggerated. Impeccably performed, sublime and hypnotic, The Haunting of Hill House is one of the best horror shows of recent years. But this jewel of gothic melancholy seduces as much by its horrifying visual and sound effects (the “jump scares”, these brutal changes integrated into a video to frighten the viewer, which cinema loves) as by its profound subject on mourning and family. It’s about siblings who, as children, grew up in the mansion that would become America’s most famous haunted house. Reunited as adults in the famous mansion, the family must finally face together the ghosts of a past that is still very present.
