As revealed in House of X/Powers of X, Moira MacTaggert is a mutant with the power of reincarnation. After Moira dies, she is reborn with all the memories of her previous life, allowing her to change the timeline as she sees fit. Although all of his lives are different in some way, there is a common denominator in virtually all of them: the Sentinels destroy all mutants, and ultimately all of humanity. This dark truth is the one constant over the many lifetimes she has lived, and while her ultimate solution to this problem is to work with Professor X and Magneto to create the mutant refuge of Krakoa, there were a few spent lives. to violence in the name of mutant salvation – but the life Moira lived during Age of Apocalypse totally undermines her anit-Sentinel efforts.

In X-Men: Alpha #1 by Scott Lobdell, Mark Waid, Roger Cruz, and Steve Epting, readers are introduced to the world of the Age of Apocalypse. Previously on X-Men, Charles Xavier’s son Legion traveled back in time to kill Magneto, but accidentally killed Professor X instead. Due to one of the strongest and most impactful mutants on the planet being out of the picture, Apocalypse saw this moment as the perfect time to strike as no one was powerful enough to oppose him. After Apocalypse came to power, he conquered North America and had his sights set on the rest of the world. Humanity, however, didn’t give up without a fight and set up a new government in Europe to fight Apocalypse from afar – and their greatest weapon in that effort were the Sentinels.

This comic issue reveals that Moira MacTaggert – during the Age of Apocalypse timeline – was married to Bolivar Trask aka the creator of the Sentinels, and her genius was lent to perfect the design of the Sentinels. This is a shocking development for fans of the X-Men House of X/Powers of X story, as this miniseries reveals that Moira has spent a lifetime murdering every member of the Trask family, including and especially Bolivar himself. Not only that, but the universal truth of all of Moira’s lifetimes is that the Sentinels are evil and will cause the end of the world, so for her to help create them in this timeline (one that is a direct offshoot of first Earth -616 ) is a pretty big plot hole.

The biggest indicator that Moira would never help create the Sentinels (or even have any affiliation with the man who created them) comes from her ninth life as depicted in House of X #2. In this life, Moira literally teams up with Apocalypse and becomes his wife. The two stand side by side atop a war-torn world that is incredibly reminiscent of the Age of Apocalypse timeline. This proves that even a planet ruled by Apocalypse is better than a planet controlled by the Sentinels. So, with everything fans now know about Moira MacTaggert thanks to her recent return to the X-Men’s Dawn of X era, it’s becoming clear that her mutation has left a massive plot hole in Age of Apocalypse.
