SYNOPSIS

Nine-tailed fox (or Gumiho) Lee Yeon awaits the reincarnation of the human he loved long ago. In the meantime, he does missions here and there, protecting humans. For her part, the documentary producer on the supernatural world, Nam Ji Ah, spots a man who looks strangely like the one who saved him 20 years earlier, but who would not have changed at all despite the years. She is interested in him, which will lead her to discover a world that she does not imagine. At the same time, we discover Lee Rang, Lee Yeon’s half-brother, who does everything to get revenge on his brother, and we witness the birth of evil which is reincarnated at the same time. All this promises many adventures and a drama with a mixture of tales, legends, bromance, romance and the supernatural.

CINEMATOGRAPHY, HISTORY, AND COMPANY

This drama is visually beautiful, it’s eye-popping, whether in terms of sets, special effects, lights, costumes (some really nice little historical passages), in short, it’s sometimes even poetic. The idea of ​​the story is good, and even if we are a little lost at the beginning by all these tales and legends, we let ourselves be carried away with pleasure.

However, was this drama a success?

Highly anticipated, because we find the well-known actor Lee Dong Wook in the main role, it is also true that many have criticized him for having made a pale copy of the series “Goblin”. Indeed, in 2016, came out one of the dramas which still today is one of the biggest successes of recent years and which remains the best rated on certain sites: “Goblin” or “The great and lonely God”. In it, Lee Dong Wook played the role of the reaper, one of the main roles, alongside the equally well-known actor, Gong Yoo.

Many therefore blamed Lee Dong Wook for attempting a second feat in the same genre of drama and failing.

That said, like any series, it remains very personal. We can still say that his role is very well carried, he knows how to slip into the skin of this arrogant fox and in the end really touching.

As for the other characters, we can note:

Lee Tae Riwho also knew how to master his role to perfection, icy and evil at will.

Kim Bum who plays Lee Rang, is excellent, a pivotal role in this drama, and beautifully acted.

The secondary characters of the Veterinary Fox and the Vixen wounded by humans, and who has become an almost desperate animal, are very interesting and clearly bring us even better into their universe: We agree!

And finally, the guardian of the Samdo river, and her husband, also have a whole story that is being discovered little by little. We think of her as cold and emotionless (which is essential in the face of her role), but we also discover there, as the episodes progress, a deeper character. Her husband is also, by turns touching, funny or full of incomprehension in the face of this woman who has been his wife for hundreds of years. They are really interesting characters to discover.

ROMANCE AND BROMANCE

Romance is what it is: Pretty and worked for some, hot for others. Each will be receptive or not to their story. But it still remains well conducted, and challenges us to a minimum, by their feelings which are discovered and rediscovered.

Jo Bo Ah There is a lot to do with it: Her role as a woman of character but touching is really brought in as it should be. We believe in her as much, as a woman, but also as a partner of Lee Yeon.

But the “plus” of this drama is indeed the relationship between the two brothers: It’s a nugget. They upset, touch, sometimes annoy, but emotionally, it’s very strong.

Kim Bum knew how to play his character perfectly: He is worked, has material, and it is really one of his best roles until today. Their relationship is the one that will ultimately mark you the most. Many critics, even negative ones, have nevertheless highlighted this bromance as one of the most successful of recent years.

Despite some harsh reviews, and a lot of criticism, this drama remains to be discovered. Fans of Lee Dong Wook will be delighted, and for all the others, the fantastic, historical side, and the beauty of the images will still be able to make you appreciate this series. The last episodes are emotionally strong and do not disappoint, quite the contrary.
