The surprising return of Sigourney Weaver

Avatar: The Way of Water causes the rather unexpected return of certain actors like Sigourney Weaver or Stephen Langwho played Grace Augustine and Colonel Quaritch respectively in the first film of 2009. The end of Avatar had closed the narrative arc of these two characters, and yet their interpreters appear again in the cast of the saga. The situation becomes clearer in the case of Sigourney Weaver, we now know that she embodies a new character.

It is again the Empire Magazine which has revealed unpublished images of the role of the American actress. This is in the guise of a Na’vi that we will find Sigourney Weaver in December! More specifically, she will play the role of Kiri, a Na’vi teenager, adopted daughter of Jake and Neytiri. If it comes as a surprise to the majority of us, some fans had already theorized a rapprochement between the young Na’vi and the interpreter of Grace Augustineeven imagining that she could be his reincarnation.

The most surprising thing about this whole story is the huge age difference between the actress and her character. We must admit that it is a real feat of special effects! Sigourney Weaver in any case enjoyed embodying this new character: “I was thrilled to take on this challenge from Jim (James Cameron)“. The director also acknowledged the complexity of the task he gave the 72-year-old actress.

As an actor, it’s a huge challenge. We have an actress in her sixties who plays a character who is several decades younger than her. Sigourney thought it was great fun. She just looked younger, had more energy and never really got out of Kiri’s skin during filming.”

Unsurprisingly, the film is directed by the creator of the saga, james cameron (Titanic), assisted by Josh Friedman (Terminator: Dark Fate) for the script. The Canadian director does not intend to stop on such a good path since three other films dedicated to the Na’vi are already in preparation! Avatar: The Waterway is produced by Jon Landeau (Alita: Battle Angel) and Peter M. Tobyansena (The jungle Book). These are the studios Weta FX (Lord of the Rings) that bring James Cameron’s blue aliens to life.
