Every December 8the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes celebrates the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.
35,000 roses will be left at the Grotto.
The Sanctuary of Lourdes offers everyone drop a white rose at the feet of Our Lady of Lourdes. In 2021, more than 35,000 roses were offered to the Virgin December 8 at the Grotto of the Apparitions.
The rose has been associated with Our Lady of Lourdes since the first Apparition where she appears adorned with a yellow rose on each foot. LOURDES AND ROME PARTNER FOR THE FLORAL TRIBUTE TO THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
December 8, Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the Pope traditionally deposits in Rome, Spanish Steps, a bouquet of flowers at the foot of a marble column, more than 11 meters high and supporting a statue of Mary which pays homage to her Immaculate Conception.
In Lourdes, at the very place where the Virgin said: ” I am the Immaculate Conception“, the Sanctuary is associated with this tradition. Thousands of roses will be placed in the Grotto at the feet of Notre-Dame, to pay her the same homage and thus prolong Bernadette’s joy, saying: ” she had a yellow rose on each foot, the color of her rosary chain”.
A NEW JOURNEY OF THE RELICS OF SAINT BERNADETTE IN FRANCE
After traveling the United States (February-July) then the United Kingdom (September-October), the reliquary returns on pilgrimage to France from December 1 to 14, 2022and will visit the dioceses of Montpellier, Nîmes, Lyon and Marseille.
The relics of Saint Bernadette will be in Lyon on December 8 (Saint-Jean primatial), December 9 (Saint-Irénée church) and December 10 (Basilica Notre-Dame de Fourvière).
This pilgrimage of Bernadette in France, within the framework of the Our Lady of Lourdes Missionsis an initiative of the National Pilgrimage of the Assumptionthe association and the Notre-Dame de Salut Hospitality, with the support of the Assumption Family, in connection with the reception centers and the diocesan Hospitalities.
The National Pilgrimage will celebrate its 150th anniversary in Lourdes from August 11 to 16, 2023.
