“The day when the Son of man will be revealed” (Lk 17, 26-37) | RCF

Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke

During that time,
Jesus said to his disciples:
“As it was in the days of Noah,
so shall it be in the days of the Son of man.
We ate, we drank, we took a wife, we took a husband,
until the day Noah entered the ark
and where came the deluge which destroyed them all.
It was the same in the days of Lot:
we ate, we drank,
we bought, we sold,
we planted, we built;
but on the day that Lot came out of Sodom,
from the sky fell a rain of fire and brimstone
who slew them all;
it will happen the same way
the day when the Son of Man will be revealed.
On that day, whoever is on his terrace,
and will have his things in his house,
let him not come down to take them away;
and likewise he who is in his field,
that he does not turn back.
Remember Lot’s wife.
Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it.
And whoever loses it will save it.
I tell you :
That night, two people will be in the same bed:
one will be taken, the other left.
Two women will be together grinding grain:
one will be taken, the other left. »
Then speaking, the disciples asked him:
“Where, Lord? »
He answered them:
“Where the body will be,
there also will gather the vultures. »

Meditation Father Sébastien Antoni

Eating, drinking, getting married, buying and selling, planting and building, all this, which fills life and which can be noble, must not hide the future that God will not make nor block the horizon of the Kingdom. Since all this must end, the wisdom of the Gospel discourages us from dwelling on it to the point of losing all freedom and vigilance. The Christian lives the healthy joys of the world without ceasing to await those that God promises, just as he lives the distresses of the world without ceasing to hope for the victory of the God who is love. And we ourselves who try to live, in the name of the Church, an existence dedicated to prayer, we must constantly renounce putting our joy and our security in the work of our hands or of our spirit, in these idols that bind the heart. We cannot cling to things, to things to do and to possess, when God is there, the Master of things, who awaits our love. And in the extension of the gospel of yesterday, the danger is not to live the ordinary, but to stick only to that and to pursue only these objectives there for his personal comfort, his personal fulfillment, his very personal advantage… whereas by God we must turn our heads towards the others, the weakest little ones… to reach them, support them, help them, relieve them and so… the Kingdom will come, and so the plan, the desire , the intimate will of God will be able to unfold. And our lives leave their routine, which in itself is neither good nor bad.. But just too small for those who want to live fully, … live according to God’s very dream for us. So who wants to live like this?
