Sleepagotchi: what if NFTs improved our sleep?

Gamification is everywhere, including in our sleep. An initiative promises anyone who sticks to a certain rest routine each night to rack up NFTs.

More than 30,000 people are currently on the waiting list to join Sleepagotchi. every day, only a few people are invited to join the Alpha version of this new player in health gamification. We already know the applications that reward – in one way or another – people who take more than 10,000 steps a day, provide information on their level of hydration hour by hour, embark on a running challenge over a month or still meditate daily. Sleepagotchihe wants to make your sleep a game.

He “rewards users who maintain a consistent sleep schedule with NFTs and crypto tokens”, can we read on the site dedicated to the project. The app is only available in combination with Apple’s Health app. You must therefore have an iPhone (an Android version is in preparation). It is possible to use different trackers to measure the quality of your sleep. Apple Watch, Fitbit, Oura ring… any product compatible with Health is valid. But the user also has the choice to do without a connected device. All you have to do is use the “Sleep” mode of your iPhone. However, the rewards will be slightly lower.

Concretely, Sleepagotchi is an app that will offer an NFT every morning to the registered member. And even two if his sleep was of very good quality. To assess this, the user enters their target bedtime and wake-up time. The closer he is to the goal, the more points he will have. The total duration of the rest and the regularity are also taken into account for the allocation of NFTs. To date, more than 2 million hours of sleep have already been recorded via the application.

What to do with these non-fungible tokens? Sleepagotchi looks a bit like an ersatz metaverse since upon registration, the new member is invited to recreate his room in the application. Or at least to create a virtual bedroom with bed, carpet, wallpaper and various and varied furniture. This is what the inventors of Sleepagotchi call the MetaRoom. Each object, avatar included, is considered an NFT. You will therefore have to accumulate tokens in order to be able to change the furniture in your room and exchange your goods with other members of the community.

Please note: not all objects have the same characteristics or the same power levels (like coins of different values in a video game, for example)! The rarest and most powerful NFTs will allow, ultimately, to access the grail, that is to say recover more SHEEP tokens (“sheep” in English). And to climb in the ranking of the game.

Harvard Business School students behind the project

Presenting itself as an actor of the future Web3, Sleepagotchi was imagined by two students from Harvard Business School, in Boston in the United States. Anton Kraminkin and Alex Karatkou participated in the Field learning-by-doing program and created their app for it.

Their goal, with this game system, is to encourage members to create a real “sleep routine” that will benefit their health. Going to bed at the same time every night, aiming for a minimum of hours of rest per night… so many good habits to adopt. Whether there are NFTs at stake or not.
