He’s the man we needed to clear the ground, throughout the 7 episodes of our podcast. Steven Laureys was born in Leuven on December 24, 1968. He did not know then that he would add up the distinctions, including those of the American Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness, the German Max Planck Society, the European Academy of Neurology of Sciences and the Francqui Foundation, also called the Belgian Nobel.

Most of his work has been devoted to the study of altered consciousness in severely brain-damaged patients, in a coma, in a state of minimal consciousness or in locked-in syndrome. In the process, he published more than 500 scientific articles and 19 books, including the recent bestseller Meditation is good for the brain published by Odile Jacob and translated into 9 languages.

He begins to explore the human brain in healthy individuals, during sleep and dream, meditation, trance and under hypnosis. And what he discovers there and then maps is fascinating

In 2019, he founded the “Centre du Cerveau” at the Liège University Hospital, specializing in the treatment of altered states of consciousness and cognitive disorders. With his team, thanks to ultra-modern techniques of brain imaging and cutting-edge technologies, he begins to explore the human brain in healthy individuals, during sleep and dream, meditation, trance and under hypnosis. And what he discovers there and then maps is fascinating : meditation is all good, we can see and scientifically measure its benefits on our health, our stress, our brain. Bingo.
