The House of the League against cancer was inaugurated this Monday in Toulouse, on the Oncopole campus. This 2.8 million euro project, unique in France, was designed for patients and their families.

The place is as beautiful as the project. With its brick facade and its 19th century Toulouse architecturee century, the Maison de la Ligue contre le cancer is part of a new era in patient care. After 18 months of work and an investment of 2.8 million euros (1), at the entrance to the Marchant hospital and at the heart of the Toulouse Oncopole Campus, this welcoming place has become the first Maison de la League in France. A site dedicated to support care, reception and temporary accommodation for cancer patients and their relatives. All under the benevolent eye of the teams of the Haute-Garonne Cancer League, which has set up its offices there.

Open since May, the House has already welcomed patients free of charge for psychological support, meditation and sophrology, socio-aesthetic sessions, nutritional advice or even adapted physical activities and hobby workshops. Part of the green spaces will soon be used to create a therapeutic vegetable garden.

Five rooms to provide temporary accommodation

From January 2023, the House will be able to receive in its five rooms, in temporary accommodation, patients undergoing treatment, socially or geographically isolated from their care center, as well as relatives of patients in long hospitalization. Patients will be referred by public and private healthcare establishments.

During the inauguration, this Monday, September 26, the guests were able to salute the investment and pugnacity of Marie-Ange Léophonte. The director of the Haute-Garonne Committee of the League against cancer, at the origin of this project, underlined her joy at being able to offer a place “which will make it possible to move from a place of care to a place of life”.
