How to clean the earrings? 5 steps to follow to give them a second life!

Clean silver or gold earrings with dishwashing liquid

After inspecting your tarnished gold and diamond hoops, it’s time to give them a second life. But what exactly should you clean gold or silver earrings with? To do this, pour two tablespoons of washing-up liquid into a small bowl filled with water, then soak your jewelry in it for 30 minutes. In the case of tarnished jewelry, swap the soapy water for a baking soda-based paste. Apply it to the gold hoops with a soft cloth. Work it into the crevices and twist the cloth to absorb the tarnish

Soak them in alcohol

Thanks to the ethanol it contains, distilled alcohol is perfect for removing the dirt that lodges on our favorite jewelry. No wonder it is widely used in the manufacture of natural cleaning products. Start by disinfecting the stones, since dirt and bacteria are usually found at its base. For this purpose, use a small toothbrush impregnated with a little alcohol. Next, move on to cleaning the metal. Adopt the same trick to clean up and give shine to the rest of your precious jewelry: rings, bracelets, necklaces, etc.

Rinse them with clear water

Oxidation can cause your necklaces, bracelets and dangling earrings to tarnish or darken. To remedy this, it is therefore important to rinse them several times. Clean water should remove soap, alcohol or baking soda residue.

Let them air dry

After cleaning and rinsing, it’s time to let your jewelry air dry. To avoid detaching the stones or scratching the surface, use a clean cotton cloth to wipe them.

Polish them with a cotton swab

To make them look like new, polish your hoop earrings with a cotton swab. Finally, place them in a jewelry box to protect them from dirt and dust. Repeat these steps once a week (or every two weeks) to prevent darkening. As for diamond earrings, consider taking them to a jeweler once a year.

What about fake fake earrings?

Neither gold nor silver, sometimes covered with rhinestones or glass stones, costume jewelry always has a small effect. To clean your fake earrings without damaging them, there are a few solutions:

• Without rubbing too much, brush your jewelry with a toothbrush soaked in toothpaste, rinse and dry.
• Clean your faux fake earrings with clay stone and salt.
• In case of jewelry that darkens, a few drops of lemon juice are enough to give them a boost.
• Rub your jewelry with a sponge soaked in soapy water and baking soda.
• Remove stains by rubbing your dangling earrings with a cloth soaked in a little ketchup.
