Paramedics had been on an indefinite general strike since February 2022.
On December 23, 2022, Local 7300 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (FTPQ-SCFP 7300) reached an agreement with the management parties to renew the collective agreement of its approximately 600 paramedic members. The previous employment contract expired on March 31, 2020.
The agreement will be put to the vote of the members during a series of general meetings to be held over the next few weeks. Its content will be revealed to the general public after the vote. The main union demands were aimed at increasing the attraction and retention of labor in order to improve service to the population. These paramedics had been on an indefinite general strike since February 2022. Given the provisions of the Essential Services Act, the effects of this strike were mainly administrative and symbolic.
The FTPQ-SCFP 7300 is a major union in the pre-hospital field, present with 18 employers in six regions of Quebec, namely Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Bas-Saint-Laurent, Gaspésie, Lanaudière, Mauricie and Montérégie.
