Food voucher: €100 plus €50 per child for 9 million households, the conditions…

The food check does not date from today. Emmanuel Macron has already mentioned this aid system then last year. During his last presidential campaign, the measure aimed at improving the purchasing power of the poorest households was repeatedly cited. Despite this, the French did not know exactly what the food check is, who is it for and above all, how much is it. Government spokeswoman Olivia Grégoire spoke on this subject. We tell you everything in this article.

Bill on purchasing power

You should know one thing, the food voucher is part of a bill aimed at improving purchasing power. Thus, nothing is certain for the moment as to its implementation. Everything will indeed be decided at the Council of Ministers on July 6, where the bill will be voted on.

The outcome is all the more uncertain because the party in power did not have an absolute parliamentary majority. As a reminder, the 2022 legislative elections were full of surprises. While Jean-Luc Mélenchon already saw himself as Prime Minister, Emmanuel Macron was confident of having a majority in the National Assembly.

To everyone’s surprise, it was Marine Le Pen’s National Rally that shone. The former National Front has 89 elected deputies. This makes the party the first opposition to power. Suffice to say that in this kind of configuration, Emmanuel Macron will have to have the agreement of the opposing parties to elect his legislative proposals, including the food check.

9 million beneficiaries

Elisabeth Borne had already given details on the food check, but some questions remained unanswered. Recently, Olivia Grégoire completed them during a trip to La Chapelle-sur-Erdre. The government spokesperson reveals the exact amount of aid, the number of French people concerned and another measure that completes the aid.

“We want to provide an emergency food allowance of 100 euros per household and 50 euros per child for 9 million people and we are working in addition on a more qualitative food check to access organic, fresh and local products”, revealed Olivia Gregory.

This is news that could bring a smile to the face of the most modest households. That said, as we said, nothing is decided yet.

Will the food check be elected?

Purchasing power was the main theme of the 2022 presidential elections. For good reason, that of the French has never been so low. Hence Emmanuel Macron’s initiative to propose this bill since 2021.

Still, the LREM deputies failed to have an absolute majority in Parliament. What will happen to the food voucher? Will it see the light of day? We will find out on July 6 at the Council of Ministers.

For her part, Olivia Grégoire did not fail to underline the importance of this bill for the government and the 9 million French people who will benefit from it. Here is what the government spokesperson said:

“We have already committed 25 billion euros since October to these support measures for the French and we will put roughly the same amount in the coming months. »

A device to deal with inflation

She goes on to say that the government hopes to put in place “at the start of the school year a specific device for heavy riders who are forced to take their car to go to work”. Which implies that the food check would only be the beginning.

“While inflation gallops, we must not go at a trot on these subjects and we hope that the opposition will follow us”, concedes Olivia Grégoire.

The government spokeswoman also expressed optimism about the future despite the inflation plaguing France. Here is what she said:

“We are coming to the peak of inflation. The good news is that it should then go down, probably towards the end of the year and the beginning of next year. »

Remember that the state has several cards in hand to fight against inflation. Incidentally, the government recently announced that the 18-cent discount on fuel prices will be extended until the end of August.. Note that the measure was taken on April 1st.
