A fund to promote labor attraction in Abitibi-Témiscamingue

In effect for a period of three years, the program is financed by the Desjardins caisses in the region and aims to counter the effects of the labor shortage in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

It is the region’s Carrefours jeunesse-emploi that manage the fund and provide entry points for people wishing to benefit from it.

Three-pronged incentives

The program has three components: exploration, settlement and socialization, and could allow a family unit to get their hands on up to $1,500.

The first part of the program, I exploreallows students from outside who choose to come and do their internship in Abitibi-Témiscamingue to obtain $500.

The second part, I’m setting up, offers a sum of $750 to cover moving and installation costs. To have access to it, a member of the family unit must have obtained a job in the region.

The third part, I weave linksmakes it possible to obtain an amount of $250 when a family member is registered for an activity or is hired as a volunteer with an organization.

It is necessary to be a member of Desjardins when submitting the application.

Support newcomers

Originally from Montreal and now based in Témiscamingue, where a pilot project has been set up, Stéphanie Therrien explains that in addition to the financial incentives offered, the support of the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi had an important role to play in her decision to choose the region.

What it allowed me to do was really take the big step and commit to doing it. Montreal-Témiscamingue is an 8-hour drive. It can be confusing, it can be destabilizing. It helped me a lot on the part of the move, but also for the search for housing. That’s another issue, 8 hours away, I can’t visit several homes, so that’s where the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi helped me a lot. she points out.

Over the past 18 months, Place aux jeunes agents from CJEs in the region have provided support for the arrival of 395 people in the region.

Hélène Nicker, representative of the CJEs in the region, maintains that this new program will not only make it possible to develop greater attractiveness, but also to promote the retention of newcomers.
