Renault 5 Diamant: an electric show car with Pierre Gonalons

The inspiration for Pierre Gonalons came from the decorative arts and more particularly from fine jewelry, which can be found in the precious and innovative details.

Renault 5 Diamant retains the characteristic lines and iconic shape of the original “Supercar” that rolled off Renault’s production line in 1972, but beneath this familiar silhouette a profound transformation has taken place. Under the hood, the car is equipped with a 100% electric motor, the first element that signals its modernity. Visually, its design introduces high quality details that invite you to discover this unique and refined blend.

For me, the Renault 5 Diamant is first and foremost the emotional shock of the exterior colors which give the car an appearance that is both naive and sophisticated, and the attention to detail provided by Pierre, who is very sensitive to the references and the meaning of each element. »

Outside, the bodywork has been streamlined to better underline the iconic lines of the Renault 5 and the usual appendages have deliberately taken out of their environment and have been magnified in shape and finish. The headlights and taillights are faceted like precious stones and the wide wheels, inherited from the Alpine version, have been smoothed and signed in their center from the sun dear to Pierre Gonalons. The exterior tint features a tri-coat paint, made with gold pigments on a pink base. It is covered with a frosted varnish, which gives a very changing effect with golden reflections in the sun, and a bluer shade in the shadows.

Inside, the purity dominates. With the joint expertise of Renault Design and the craftsmen associated with the realization of the project, Pierre Gonalons was able to simplify the car by keeping only very specific elements. The door handles and window controls as well as the gear lever are made from a truncated sphere, treated like very Parisian references in brass gilded with pale gold, stainless materials, and very durable. The steering wheel, with its very particular shape and yet functional, is produced with marble on carbon, and even the vehicle key undergoes a specific treatment. While relying on the expertise of Renault to give the whole credibility and flawless automotive realism, and without compromising the use of functional elements.

Renault 5 Diamant also brings technology. First of all, it is 100% electric, and incorporates a fingerprint reader to unlock the doors. An electric vehicle, the Renault 5 Diamant offers a gear lever with three sequential positions (forward, neutral and reverse). Three round counters with digital display celebrating watchmaking display essential information: speed, load and time. As for navigation and infotainment, everything can be easily provided by the owner’s smartphone which finds its place in a dedicated location in the middle of the dashboard.
