The Muoto studio (Gilles Delalex and Yves Moreau) was chosen to represent France at the 18th Venice Biennale (Italy), with “Ball Theater / The party is not over”, a spectacular sound architecture, responding to the theme of this 2023 edition: “ The laboratory of the Future “. Communicated.

The artistic team of the Ball Theater / La fête n’est pas fini project consists of the Muoto studio, curator of the project, the scenography of the project has been entrusted to Clémence La Sagna and Georgi Stanishev, architects and scenographers. Jos Auzende is an associate curator, she is now the artistic co-director of the Gaîté Lyrique in Paris. Finally, Anna Tardivel is responsible for project coordination and programming.

The Ball Theater presents itself as a light and modular sphere, designed as a laboratory of identities. It assumes a poetic and utopian dimension that questions the notion of growth. It can be interpreted both as a place of divination of the future and as a disco ball that brings sound, space and the body into play. It is animated by a monthly cycle of workshops-residences-occupations which stages a plurality of voices and stories. It is a theater open to the world and its globalized challenges.

It acts as an echo chamber within which resonate current questions about the fragility of the planet, our colonial heritage, our representations of identity and gender. It suggests a new approach to current crises, through questioning, letting go, the search for alternatives and imaginations.

The Ball Theater is an architecture that captures a plurality of voices from elsewhere and teaches us to listen to the world again. It captures and retransmits, like a radio; it testifies to a world where transmitters and receivers have multiplied through social networks.

He invites the public to experience a sound odyssey where noises, songs, voices, murmurs mingle… a form of non-verbal proto-language that precedes words and encourages new forms of attention. The sound composition is imagined by the musician and electronic composer Pilooski in collaboration with the engineer – sound designer Alain Français and Thomas Fourny. It engages visitors in a “slow listening” approach, echoing the acoustic research of Bernhard Leitner.

The installation of Studio Muoto is designed in an innovative and eco-responsible approach, dedicated to sustainable and renewed use. This approach is distinguished by a minimal constructive mode, an original sound resonance and an inclusive experience of the public. It defines architecture as a veritable laboratory of environmental, technical and social innovations.

The light and removable architecture is designed for roaming and the influence of the project following the Venice Biennale and is manufactured locally by industrialists and craftsmen in the Veneto region in order to guarantee a minimum carbon footprint.
