Caesar’s Spy – Volume 3: The Rubicon – rating: 7/10

Continuation and end of Caesar’s Spy with this third volume by the author duo Pécau and Fafner.

Coax is Gallic but he is above all Caesar’s spy. He notably served the Roman during the Gallic Wars. Here he will accept a new mission, having common interests with Caesar. Both must settle their personal accounts: the Gaul with the dog of Hades, the Roman with his alter-ego Pompey.

For those who have a soft spot for history and in particular that of Gallo-Roman history, this series is a little happiness. We obviously come back to the period of opposition between Pompey and Caesar, but in this last volume, you can also “revise” the Gallic Wars and Caesar’s strategy to conquer these countries.

Question outcome, on the other hand, it goes a little quickly but it’s still as well drawn and laid out.

The Rubinstein brothers – Volume 4: The Sons of Sion – rating: 8/10

Solomon got into film. The premiere of his film, taken from his childhood, is a great success. A film that he will have to promote as far as France where he still has an arrest warrant in his name. His brother Moïse meets a student journalist who will make him aware of the cause of a Jewish state in Palestine. A subject that divides even in the ranks of the Jews, but which becomes significant in the face of the rise of anti-Semitism all over the world, and particularly in France and Germany.

Alternating between the past and the present (when Moses is in the Sobibor concentration camp where the horror is always closer), the story tells us and reminds us of this period with force, and points out that Nazi propaganda does not had no limit even if it meant reusing a Jewish work.

Etienne Le Roux’s drawing remains as impressive as ever.

Blood Queens, La Kahina, the Berber Queen – Volume 1 – rating: 7/10

The series of blood queens is no longer confined to European queens: Cleopatra (although she is of Greek origin), Tzu-Hirecently Njinga and now the Berber, Dihya, nicknamed La Kahina “the prophetess” for her powers of divination.

A queen that many readers will certainly not know, and will discover the incredible destiny. A Berber queen whose behavior could be described as barbaric. In an eminently masculine world, these actions are intended to be strong and striking. And it is necessary for a people usually ruled by men.

Action, violence, it takes the magnificent drawings of Dragan Paunovic to pass the pill. A woman who shows that a human being is capable of the worst and the best whatever their sex, but with their weapons.
