On October 25, 2022 in the morning, a partial solar eclipse will be visible from Europe and therefore France, with part of the Sun obscured by the Moon. How can you observe this incredible phenomenon in complete safety?

You will soon be able to observe a magnificent partial solar eclipseat Paris and throughout France! Indeed, the October 25, 2022in the morning, from 9:58 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Moon will obstruct the Sun for several minutes, but not entirely. For a real annular eclipse, where our luminous star will disappear entirely, we still have to wait a bit. This time, Europe is lucky, and finds itself well placed to observe the phenomenon, with nearly 86% of the Sun obscured in some countries.

In France, the northeast will be the best off, with around 19% of the Sun hidden from view. Speaking of views, don’t forget about yourself protect the eyes on this occasion, because looking directly at our sun, even during an eclipse, can burn the retina irreversibly. So, to take advantage of this partial eclipse, wear a pair of goggles, to buy in pharmacies or opticians at the price of three euros. Normal sunglasses are not enough, you need a special filter.

If the eclipse begins around 10 a.m., the maximum will occur between 11:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. In Paris, we are one of the luckiest in France with almost 14% of the Sun less, at the level of its left part. The Sparks of the Palace of Discovery and the City of Science and Industry offer animation to take full advantage of this incredible event.

  • From 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. : take advantage of the solar eclipse to observe this partial occultation with our telescopes and watch the use of the La Villette radio telescope. Intended to capture the radioelectric radiation of the stars, this instrument will allow the Dimension Parabole team to observe live the variation of the radio signal of the Sun. This observation will be followed by mediation with members of the Dimension Parabole association and the astronomy team of the Palais de la Découverte on the forecourt of the Etincelles of the Palais de la Découverte.

  • 9:30 a.m. : on the occasion of the solar eclipse of October 25, the place offers a preview of his film “Birth of Planet Earth”. This film, with high resolution visualizations, proposes to relive this birth, passing from the immensity of the Universe to the depths of the oceans. A formidable odyssey that recalls the uniqueness of our planet.
  • From 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. : the mediators will make you live the event with telescopes and on screens. This partial passage of the Moon in front of the Sun represents a great opportunity to follow the celestial mechanics of objects.
