Chinese New Year: tiger, monkey, rat… How to calculate your astrological sign?

The lunar year of the water tiger begins on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. On the occasion of the Chinese New Year, we explain the meaning of these astrological signs and how to calculate yours.

Water tiger, fire monkey, metal pig… Do you know your astrological sign Chinese and the element associated with it? Lunar New Year, also called Chinese New Year, begins Tuesday, February 1, 2022. Its date is fixed according to the New Moon of February, the first day of the lunar calendar. This holiday, celebrated in several countries, is also called “Spring Festival” or “Tet Festival”.

What the year of the water tiger holds

The year 2022 is placed under the sign of water tiger. In Chinese astrology, this signifies a year of self-awareness, respect and new horizons. The tiger is naturally benevolent with the brave and the water element reveals what is hidden, but it is also a symbol of temperance. The Lunar year will end on January 21, 2023, to make way for the water hare the next day.

How are astrological signs calculated?

Contrary to Zodiac signs, determined by the course of the sun on the twelve constellations in one year, Chinese astrology is based on the lunar calendar, composed of cycles of twelve years. So each year corresponds to an animal, in this order: rat, buffalo, tiger, hare (or rabbit), dragon, snake, horse, goat (or goat), monkey, rooster, dog and pig.

Then, each animal is associated with an element: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Symbolically, all these elements interact with each other. For example, water is nourished by metal, it nourishes wood, it is subdued by earth and extinguishes fire. Thus, people born under the sign of water are sensitive and emotional.
