Saint Michael is the subject of strong devotion. The rosary of Saint Michael the Archangel is one of the best known and most powerful rosaries. He is invoked to ask him for protection and deliverance against evil and the traps of the Evil One. It is a valuable aid in times of spiritual warfare.
The rosary is made up of 39 beads. Nine groups of three grains represent nine choirs of angels, separated by a large grain each time. Four grains are grouped before the medal. The medal represents on one side Saint Michael the Archangel victorious against the devil, on the other, the Guardian Angel.
The rosary of Saint Michael the Archangel dates from the 18th century. He was born from an apparition to a Portuguese Carmelite, Antonia d’Astonaco, in 1751. During this vision, Saint Michael asks for a prayer of greeting from the nine choirs of angels who accompany him in his fight against Satan. This is why this rosary is also called Rosary of the Angels or Angelic Crown. It was approved by Pope Pius IX on August 8, 1851, who associated a plenary indulgence with its recitation.
3why pray to him
In the midst of earthly trials, God provides powerful allies: his army of angels. The Archangel Saint Michael ensures his continual protection to the praying person who recites his rosary. He also promises those who pray to him daily to deliver him from Purgatory. To those who pray the Rosary before receiving Communion, Saint Michael promises to be accompanied to the Holy Table by an angel from each of the nine choirs. Finally, the rosary of the angels strengthens the faith of those who pray it.
4how to pray
The rosary begins with the sign of the Cross, then we recite: “God, come to my aid. Lord, come to our aid. Glory to the Father, to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, now and always, forever and ever. Amen. »
On the first four beads near the medal, pray four “Our Fathers”:
the first in honor of Saint Michael,
the second in honor of Saint Gabriel,
the third in honor of Saint Raphael
and the fourth in honor of our Guardian Angel.
Then pray an “Our Father”, three “Hail Marys” then the greeting to the first choir of angels, and so on with the following choirs.

To the 1st choir of angels: “Through the intercession of Saint Michael and of the Celestial Choir of the Seraphim, may the Lord make us worthy of being inflamed with perfect charity. »

“Most glorious Saint Michael, chief and prince of the heavenly Hosts, faithful guardian of souls, conqueror of rebellious spirits, favorite of the house of God, our admirable guide after Jesus Christ; you, whose excellence and virtue are supereminent: deign to deliver us from all evils, all of us who have recourse to you with confidence; and make, by your incomparable protection, that we advance each day in fidelity to serve God. Pray for us, O blessed Saint Michael, Prince of the Church of Jesus Christ, so that we may be worthy of his promises. »
“Almighty and eternal God, who by a prodigy of goodness and mercy for the common salvation of men, have chosen as Prince of your Church the most glorious Archangel Saint Michael; make us worthy, we beg you, to be delivered, by his benevolent protection, from all our enemies, so that at our death none of them can worry us; but may it be granted to us to be introduced by him into the presence of your powerful and august Majesty. By the merits of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen. »
