Emily Prentisse (Paget Brewer) is busy navigating the bureaucracy and politics of the multiple departments she now oversees as the new Head of Unit. She is torn between wanting to pursue more serial killers and following the agenda of her superiors, who want the agents to focus on domestic terrorism. Paget Brewster plays Emily Prentiss, who in the original series begins as a new transfer agent at the BAU. Over time, she has proven her tenacity and skill, pursuing killers and bringing them to justice. Emily is close to JJ and Penelope since they are among the only women in their unit. In the new series, it seems Emily is growing weary of the constraints of her cushy new job and finds herself drawn back to the BAU.

Brewster first received public recognition for her role as Kathy on Friends, but her role as Emily Prentiss in Criminal minds is considered his breakout role. She was a regular cast member of the series from 2006 to 2016.

Criminal Minds: Evolution finds David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) struggling with overwhelming grief after losing a loved one. To cope, he gets back to work: looking for leads that could solve the horrific murder of a family in Virginia. Disheveled, depressed and living in a hotel room, the only thing David has to look forward to these days is the case he’s solving. After a family is murdered in Virginia, Rossi ends up following a lead in Maryland that may well be related to the case.

Mantegna has been in show business since 1969, when he made his debut in the Chicago cast of the musical Hair. Since then, he has had a prolific career on stage and won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play for his role in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by David Mamet, Glengarry Glen Ross. He later moved on to television, starring in Criminal minds as David Rossi for over a decade from 2007 to 2020.

Aisha Tyler features Dr. Tara Lewis, reintroducing audiences to the fascinating forensic psychologist and BAU Supervisory Special Agent. We meet Tara making progress on a case alongside Luke, opening a shipping container full of bodies that may or may not be the work of a serial killer who went unnoticed for fifteen years. Beyond her disturbing discoveries, things seem to be looking up for Tara as she has just started dating a co-worker, leading her fellow agents to tease her about it. Apart from his role on Criminal minds from 2015 to 2020, Tyler is also a prolific voice actress and was the voice behind Lana Kane on Archer since 2009. She also won a Daytime Emmy for co-hosting Deadline’ The speech. More recently, she lent her voice to The Boys Presents: Devilish and played the role of herself in The boys‘ infamous “Herogasm” episode.

AJ Cook as Jennifer “JJ” Jareau

JJ, in the original series, acted as a liaison between the BAU, local media, and police departments, and throughout the series she became a full-time profiler. She’s been married to Will LaMontagne Jr. for a while, they have two kids and love each other, but they’re struggling to rekindle that spark that made them so attracted to each other in the first place. Although best known for her role as Supervisory Special Agent JJ, A.J. Cook also appeared in Sophie Coppolait is virgins who committed suicide and the 2003 horror film Final destination 2.

Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia

Resident tech assistant and white hat Penelope Garcia is a fan favorite whose witty banter and quirky demeanor have made her an integral part of the BAU. But when we first meet her Criminal Minds: Evolution, Garcia gave up her job in favor of personal care, tired of the constant stress and trauma she had to deal with investigating serial killers on a daily basis. Luke approaches her desperately needing her help, but she isn’t necessarily thrilled to be returning to the BAU. Kirsten Vangsness is best known for her work in the Criminal minds franchise having reprized its role beyond the original series, appearing in spinoffs like Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders.

Adam Rodriguez as Luke Valdez

Adam Rodriguez stars as Luke Valdez, a task force agent who joins Dr. Tara Lewis to solve a new case in Yakima County, Washington, where they make an undeniably grisly discovery. Luke enlists Penelope Garcia’s help in the case, partially motivated by lingering feelings for her. In the original series finale, Luke asked Penelope out, but the audience couldn’t see what happened. With a bit of luck, Criminal Minds: Evolution will respond if Luke and Penelope will reunite. Rodriguez is no stranger to procedural drama, having starred in a breakout role as Eric Delko on Expert: Miami. He also had recurring roles on shows like Ugly Betty, Jane the Virgin, and Penny Dreadful: City of Angels.

Josh Stewart is back as JJ’s sweet and loving husband, Detective Will LaMontagne Jr. They have been together since the events of the original series and have two children. This power couple is back, but not without some hiccups in their relationship, as the two have gone their separate ways. But with their long history together, let’s hope they pull it off. Besides his role as Will, Josh Stewart is best known for his role as Holt McLaren in FX’s Dirt. He also had roles in The dark knight rises, War machine, The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttonand Interstellar. He also played John Pilgrim, the sadistic main villain of Netflix season 2. The Punisher.

Elias Volt, the new big bad (or UnSub as agents say), is played by Zach Gilford. Gilford is terrifying as a seemingly normal operations analyst at a cybersecurity firm who moonlights as the mastermind behind a network linking serial killers from across the country. Gilford got his big break as Matt Saracen in Friday night lights and recently played roles in smash hits like Netflix’s Midnight Mass and NBCs good girls.

In addition to these actors, Nicole Pacent also plays the recurring role of Rebecca.
