Update 07/06 at 3:03 p.m.
Olive trees, palm trees and turquoise blue sea form the authentic landscapes of Cagnes-sur-Mer. This jewel of the Côte d’Azur marvelously combines tradition and modernity, between a cultural stroll and a trendy rooftop. (Re)discover the destination through 3 emblematic spots!
The intimate spirit of Haut-de-Cagnes
Auguste Renoir, Georges Simenon, Cocteau or even Modigliani fell in love with it. At the top of the hill, the Haut-de-Cagnes offers a remarkable view of the Mediterranean and the Mercantour. Nicknamed “the Montmartre of the Côte d’Azur”, the perched village makes you want to stroll and get lost in the pretty cobbled streets. Vaulted passages, flowery staircases, everything is there to spend a quiet moment, far from the hustle and bustle of the seaside. Dominating the summit, the Château Grimaldi, built in the 14th century, reflects the medieval past of the town. Listed as a Historic Monument, the impressive building houses the olive tree museum, collections of 20th century paintings and contemporary art exhibitions. Inside, the bright colors give a typically Italian rendering and a baroque spirit to the decor. Climbing to the top of the tower, a magnificent panorama reveals the charms of the medieval town and a marvelous view of the Baie des Anges. Not far from there, the Solidor area houses the contemporary jewelry museum. The unique know-how of the craftsmen has established itself as a reference in contemporary goldsmithing and has earned Cagnes-sur-Mer the label “City and crafts”.
An artistic stroll at the Domaine des Collettes
If you like art and the great painters of the 19th century, continue the walk to the Domaine des Collettes. A true haven of peace, the last home of the painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir fascinates with its authenticity. While strolling in the gardens of the villa, a feeling of plenitude is felt in the middle of the centuries-old olive trees, the umbrella pines and the orange trees. Luminous landscapes in delicate shades of blue, green and ochre… Cagnes-sur-Mer is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the artist, who will highlight this Provençal nature in his paintings. Located in the heart of the estate, the Renoir Museum testifies to the universe of the Impressionist master. The house houses family objects and furniture, as well as fourteen original paintings and thirty sculptures by the master, including a version of the Grandes Baigneuses.
Drink a cocktail on the new trendy rooftop
A true haven of peace, the Ary’s Rooftop offers you a chill and cozy end to the day. In a designer setting, enjoy a homemade cocktail and some antipasti while letting yourself be lulled by the breathtaking view of Château Grimaldi. Chef Alexis Chaillou delights our taste buds with his local products and his cuisine with Mediterranean flavors. A cuisine inspired by nearby Italy, where he will stock up on seasonal produce. La Dolce Vita at its peak!
Like a hyphen to this land of artists, the intimate rooftop immerses us in the beauty of the big blue through paintings by Ben Thouard. The Toulonnais exposes his passion for the waves and promises us a moment of escape in a musical lounge atmosphere.
